The Divine Word University’s approach to education is enshrined in the Divine Word Institute’s Charter (1977), which crafts a vision of an academic community in search of truth, with a religiously oriented and socially conscious environment as the setting for the learning experience. It draws on the charism of St Arnold Janssen SVD, in its emphasis on mission, service and growing together in faith and learning. DWU serves the nation by placing emphasis on the spirituality of work, self-reliance and service. The University aims at full and inclusive human development.
Each year life at DWU is guided by a special theme. The theme for 2021 is, “The language that all people understand is that of love.” These are memorable words attributed to St Joseph Freinademetz.
The Divive Word University Alumni is comprised of past and present students from Divine Word Univeristy (Madang) and its affiliated institutions throughout Papua New Guinea.
Why the Divine Word University Alumni Association was initiated
Networking Opportunities
We’ll start with the obvious reason. One of the main purposes of alumni associations is to support a network of former graduates who will, in turn, help to raise the profile of the university. Just like most other university student organizations, alumni associations aim to bring together like-minded individuals. Alumni programs are open to all graduates and offer a broad networking scope. If you’re heading to graduation in a couple of months or have just finished your degree, joining the alumni association is a good way to get a foot (or three) in the door. Contact your alumni association to see what sort of networking opportunities they offer. We plan to host job fairs into the future. Other initiatives include mentor programs for graduates that pair outgoing students with alumni in similar career fields.

The Alumni is more than just networking. When you were a student at the university, you were part of a community that offered all sorts of exciting perks, all of which made your university experience a unique and dynamic one. The Divine Word University Alumni Association understand that even after graduation, many students continue to feel connected to their university, or associate a part of their identity with the institution. That’s why many alumni associations continue to offer former students ways to keep their connection with the university; we are no different. We have plans to to host special alumni social events in the near future giving our members free/discounted tickets to university sporting events, life-time email services, insurance and much more!
Give Back
The university has provided us with numerous educational opportunities – In these respestcs, the alumni association takes on a whole new meaning and is no longer just about networking or the added benefits that are derived from being a financial member. The alma mater has shaped and moulded many into the successes they are today and therefore our participation within the alumni and its activities gives us the opportunity to give back to the institution that has played a big role in our development.
